What if there were no sun? water?
Observing "crippled plants"
One class investigated the effects of not watering a plant.
|
The children show with their bodies what happens to plants with no water!
|
Since the children knew that
the plants needed sun, water and soil to grow, two investigations
helped them see the importance of these elements. First, one
kindergarten class put
a bag over one of their plants for three weeks and left the other on the window
sill.
Another class did not water one of their plants for three
weeks. During the three weeks, both the "crippled" plants were wilted, but the plant
with no water suffered more than the plant with no sun. Having the
children document what is happening to their investigation is an important
science skill.
