What makes day and night?

Our kindergarten children were able to talk about the sun rising and then disappearing.  They were curious about where the sun went at night.    They had no difficulty understanding how  this works when it was demonstrated for them.  One child held a flashlight; they were the pretend sun.  They would hold the light's rays directly on a globe which other children would turn very slowly.  This would allow them to see how the sun "rises" and "sets", as day comes to a part of the world and then leaves that part of the world.  Here are their assessments after the demonstration.

Recommended children's literature:  What Makes day and night? by Franklyn Branley.
