International Public Science Day 2002
Songs Created from Learning
Two teachers at Peabody created original songs for their children to
share on International Public Science Day 2002. Mr. Nathan Havner,
pre-kindergarten teacher at Peabody Early Childhood Center, integrates Spanish
into his classroom lessons and he created "El Sol" to reinforce his
children’s learning about the sun.
Spanish version:
|
English version:
|
| "El sol es una estrella, |
"The sun is a star, |
| que vive en el cielo. |
That lives up in the sky |
| El sol nos da energia, |
The sun gives us energy, |
| Y hace calor el pelo." |
And makes our hair warm." |
PS – Mr. Havner says, “It sounds better in Spanish”, as it should!!
Ms. Rachel Cross, music teacher for the School Within School at Peabody, listened to what
the kindergarten children in Ms. Chapman’s class were learning and she wrote: "The Sun is a star of life."
| "The Sun is a Star of Life. |
| It goes away every night. |
| The earth travels all around the sun. |
| The sun shines life on everyone. |
| The sun shines life on everyone. |
| |
| The sun helps lots of things grow. |
| It gives us energy and food |
| Like trees, plants, corn and grass, |
| Vegetables and fruit. |
| |
| The sun makes light. |
| Without sun, we would not be alive. |
| Light helps you see where you are going, |
| Or, you might be in a black hole, |
| And then you could not drive. |
| |
| If you look right at the sun, |
| It will hurt your eyes. |
| But sometimes it’s red, yellow, orange/TD>
|
| And pink when it’s the sun rise. |
| |
| The sun helps seasons change – hot to cold. |
| The sun helps you know West to East. |
| Without the sun, we’d all be shoring and asleep!" |
