Kinesthetic Activities

Prekindergarten children acting out seed germination process.

Children need to move  their bodies often.  Kinesthetic intelligence was one of seven intelligences identified by Howard Gardner in his theory of the "seven intelligences".  Therefore, we develop ways of learning through body movement.

Feeling warmth:  We took a shadow walk to identify how the sun makes shadows.  It is good to compare a spot with that same spot  later in the day so the children can see how movement of the earth changes the shadow.  Moving from shadowy to sunny spots,  the children could feel the difference in temperature  and how important to the sun's energy is to keep us warm!

Recommended children's literature:  What Makes a Shadow?  by Clyde Bulla; and Bear Shadow by Frank Asch.

The front of the buildings is shadowy a lot and it is coldest.

Our shadows  walked with us!.

On top of the playground is sunny and under it is shady.

And then we get to play shadow tag!
